Overview

Located in the central valley, the Chilean capital of Santiago boasts a landscape consisting of snow-capped mountains and the shimmering shores of the Pacific. Given its proximity to snow and sea, it’s not uncommon for people to try skiing and surfing in the same day (if you’re adventurous enough!). An exciting city tour of the area will take you to the renowned Plaza de Armas, a hub for trade and meet-ups, as well as the famous Cathedral and Post Office situated within the main square.

Santiago is also a perfect stepping stone for exploring other nearby areas such as Viña del Mar and Valparaiso. Valparaiso is a World Heritage Site with a colorful history running through its core, while Viña del Mar has been dubbed the “Garden City” for its plethora of green spaces. After visiting these idyllic cities, you’ll commence the first of your many winery tours at the Concha y Toro winery in Pirque, a short drive from Santiago.

On the last leg of your trip, visit the Atacama and move towards one of the most important archaeological sites of the area. Get to visit  Pukará de Quitor, a Pre-Hispanic stone fortress constructed by the indigenous that dates back to the 17th-century along with what is known as the “Culture of San Pedro” at the village of Tulor and many more places to explore before you fly back home.

ITINERARY

On your arrival in Santiago airport, you will get a transfer from the airport to the hotel. On your arrival to the hotel, you will meet your English-speaking guide who will explain the area you will be covering.

Departure from our hotel in Santiago to begin our journey towards the city center, where we will know its main attractions. Before we begin our journey, we will visit Piedras Australes handicraft shop where we will be able appreciate beautiful pieces of lapis lazuli.

Then, we will travel from the east side of the city to downtown, where we can see modern and ancient buildings and how they have transformed the city. We will visit the Santa Lucia Hill, where the city of Santiago was founded in 1541.

Later, we will continue to the Plaza de Armas, where we can see the Cathedral of Santiago, the Municipality, the Post Office Building and National History Museum. Our journey will continue along the Government Palace and where we will have the opportunity to walk through some of the most traditional streets and neighborhoods.

Our tour ends with a transfer to our hotel in Santiago.

Departure from our hotel in Santiago towards the central coast of the country.

During the tour we will make a brief stop in a vineyard in the Casablanca Valley, to enjoy a glass of wine.

Our first visit begins in Viña del Mar, also known as "The Garden City" thanks to the large number of parks and gardens that are appreciated. We will make a stop at the Quinta Vergara, Carrasco Palace, and we will meet a Moai from Easter Island. Next, we will continue towards the most important coastal edge of the central coast, and then we will get to know the famous flower clock of the city.

Then, we will arrive in Valparaíso, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, full of multicolored houses in the hills, parks and various national monuments. One of these attractions is the Plaza Sotomayor, important civic plaza of the city, located on the shores of one of the main ports of Chile.

After this, you will get a transfer from your hotel to the airport in Santiago where you'll catch a flight for Atacama.

On your arrival in Calama, you will get a transfer from the airport to your hotel.

AM-

Depart from your Hotel in San Pedro de Atacama towards one of the most important archaeological sites of the area. Visit Pukará de Quitor, a Pre-Hispanic stone fortress constructed by the indigenous that dates back to the 17th century. Today it represents an archaeological monument and its great historical importance lies in the “Battle of Quitor”, where one of the first clashes between the Spanish conquistadores and the indigenous took place.

Next, learn about what is known as the “Culture of San Pedro” at the village of Tulor. Despite of its age it has been well preserved thanks to the natural conditions of the place. This ancient construction is probably the first settlement of the Atacama Salt Flat.

Finally, visit the Church of San Pedro. After this last stop, return to your Hotel in San Pedro de Atacama

PM-

Depart from your Hotel in San Pedro of Atacama and head to the Cordillera de la Sal (Salt Mountain Range), where you will visit the Valley of the Moon (“Valle de la Luna”) that forms part of the National Flamingo Reservation. This unique place is famous for its natural mineral sculptures, one of them being “Las Tres Marías” (The three Mary’s) formed by the wind erosion, resembling a lunar setting.

Next, visit Death Valley (“Valle de la Muerte”), a place that invites sand boarders to practice their favorite sport and sandy place with a particular geographical beauty. Its salt formations seem to be sculptures and works of art.

Finally, end your trip with a magical sunset at the Kari Viewpoint, one of the highest points of the “Cordillera de la Sal” (Salt Mountain Range); before returning to your Hotel in San Pedro de Atacama.

Depart from your Hotel in San Pedro de Atacama, while heading by the international highway towards the Atacama Salt Flat, one of the largest in the world due to its large size. Within the Salt Flat, in the area known as Soncor and the Chaxa Lagoon, be delighted with the three species of native pink flamingos.

Then, we will visit Piedras Rojas viewpoint to continue and travel further within the Altiplano, reaching 4,300 meters above sea level. Arrive at the Miñique and Miscanti lagoons, at the foothill of the Miñique and Miscanti volcanoes, with fantastic scenery of bluish waters arising from the background volcanoes. After this visit, we will return to Socaire for lunch at one of the rustic cooking places of the village, that still use the resources cultivated from the ancestral agricultural terraces.

Finally, make a stop at the village of Toconao, where we will visit the main square, the bell tower built in 1750 made of cactus wood, mud and straw, and the church of San Lucas, both declared National Monument since 1951. Return to your Hotel in San Pedro de Atacama. From here, you will get a transfer to the airport where you will catch a flight back to Santiago.

Welcome back to Santiago! Here you will stay for a night at 3 star Hilton Garden Inn Santiago - Airport, Chile.

It's time to say your adieus to Chile and catch your flight to head back home.
