HIGHLIGHTS OF PANAMA & COSTA RICA

HIGHLIGHTS OF PANAMA & COSTA RICA

This Central American getaway will see you delve deep into the history of Panama City for three nights to see for yourself the magnificent Panama Canal before delving into the jungles of Costa Rica. Marvel at excellent views of the Panama Canal, Arenal Volcano and Tortuguero National Park before relaxing on the sun-soaked beaches in Tamarindo!

The link between Central and South America, Panama is home to a vibrant mix of cultures and an extensive, world-renowned canal cutting through its core. Here, bulbous skyscrapers and thronging casinos merge with colonial gems and emerald-colored rain-forest, giving Panama that sought-after blend of old-meets-new.

During your whirlwind three-night stay here in the historic metropolis of Panama City, a jam-packed sightseeing tour will throw you into the crowds of all that the capital has to offer. Meander down the spaghetti-like streets of the Casco Viejo historic district (a World Heritage Site), feasting your eyes upon colonial treasures and timeworn architecture, and discover the Miraflores Locks, a vital part of the Panama Canal.

After falling in love with the refreshing, ‘mañana mañana’ attitude of the Panamanians, you’ll be whisked off to Costa Rica – Panama’s rugged, rain-forested Central American neighbor and home to a bountiful coastline, volcanoes and protected jungle.

For eight nights, you’ll be able to enjoy the culinary delights of Costa Rican cuisine, have the option to watch green sea turtles spawn on the beaches of Tortuguero (July to August) or see them hatch beneath a glittery night’s sky (September to October), and observe the majestic Arenal Volcano. Sound good? We think so too.

First, you’ll get to know the village of Tortuguero, nestled on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast and a significant nesting site for green sea turtles. Resting your head at a quaint lodge on the doorstep of the exuberant Tortuguero Jungle, you’ll rub shoulders with exotic wildlife and venture off on tours of freshwater canals before making your way to Arenal.

Feast your eyes upon the green-crested Arenal Volcano and then relax in sun-drenched Tamarindo, Guanacaste – a beach-hoppers paradise where golden shorelines and crystal-clear waters collide to create some of the country’s excellent beaches.

Days spent unwinding on Playa Blanca, scouring Santa Rosa National Park for rare birds and combing the mangrove-lined estuary of Tamarindo Wildlife Refuge for howler monkeys and snapping crocodiles, will be the perfect way to cap off such an incredible getaway.

Marvels of Santiago and Atacama

Marvels of Santiago and Atacama

Located in the central valley, the Chilean capital of Santiago boasts a landscape consisting of snow-capped mountains and the shimmering shores of the Pacific. Santiago is also a perfect stepping stone for exploring other nearby areas such as Viña del Mar and Valparaiso. After visiting these idyllic cities, you’ll commence the first of your many winery tours at the Concha y Toro winery in Pirque, a short drive from Santiago.

On the last leg of your trip, visit the Atacama and move towards one of the most important archaeological sites of the area. A Taste of Argentina and Chile

A Taste of Argentina and Chile

South America is a rare breed. Where else can you find Andean peaks, Amazonian rainforest, Incan ruins, and pearly-white beaches all in one place? Here, a rich tapestry of differing landscapes will play host to both loud, metropolitan cities and quieter, green-crested valleys and vineyards. Here, sun-kissed shores will brush up against turquoise waters, and ancient temples will sit frozen in time and explored by you. Here, you’ll find millions of tourists every year – and it doesn’t take a genius to work out why.

The second slightly boozy portion of our trip will take us to Mendoza in Argentina. Located in a region of foothills and high plains, this is the birthplace of some of Argentina’s most exquisite wines and often referred to as one of the nine Great Wine Capitals. We’ll make our way to the vineyards of MaipúandLujan de Cuyo and brush up on our knowledge of the production process.

But Mendoza isn’t just a catnip to wine connoisseurs; this beautiful city also houses museums such as the Mendoza Museum of Modern Art, not to mention it’s a stone’s throw from the Aconcagua Mountain, the highest mountain outside of the Himalayas, making it a perfect stopover for hikers and climbers eager to scale this mighty beast.
Once we’ve wined and dined sufficiently, we’ll then make our way to Buenos Aires for the last leg of the trip. Argentina’s capital is a sparkling, metropolitan paradise consisting of more than 280 theatres, green spaces, and captivating neighborhoods. The San Telmo area and its tanguerias will have you on the dance-floor till dawn, grooving to Latin beats, and you’ll be able to grab a bite from the cantina restaurants which litter the La Boca area afterward.

To brush up on our history, we’ll head to the Plaza de Mayo, the city’s political epicenter, and observe the impressive Pyramid de Mayo and Presidential Palace before venturing to the famous La Recoleta cemetery, the final resting place of Eva Peron.

Wonders Of Ecuador And Galapagos

Wonders Of Ecuador And Galapagos

With timeless rural villages backed by mighty volcanoes and clear, azure waters teeming with sea lions, sharks, and sea turtles, the Galápagos Islands and mainland Ecuador are two destinations you don’t want to miss out ever! Wander through the tangle of Quito’s ancient streets, visit beautiful local towns such as Otavalo, and island-hop within the wildlife-life rich Galápagos Islands!

Straddling the equator and home to a hodgepodge of diverse landscapes (from thick Amazon jungle to boulder-strewn Andean highlands and the beautiful Galápagos Islands), Ecuador is one of South America’s must-sees.

Quito is the country’s capital, nestled up high in the Andean foothills at a whopping 2,850 meters in altitude. Built on the foundations of an ancient Incan city, you expect Quito to be a living, breathing historical treasure trove; its 16th and 17th-century churches, Moorish-style structures, and well-preserved colonial center are certainly a nod to its historical heritage.

After wandering Quito and visiting the Equator Monument to the north, you’ll venture to Mindo (nestled in the Ecuadorian rainforest) and then to indigenous Otavalo (a town fringed by volcanoes). Sample Mindo’s local chocolate, feed bird-sized butterflies at the nursery and then tour Otavalo’s handicraft market.

Continue the tour with visits to other quaint towns and villages such as Cotacachi, Peguche, hot springs at Papallacta and finally visit the snow-capped active Stratovolcano of Cotopaxi before heading back to Quito.

Next, you’ll be whisked off to the paradisiacal Galápagos Islands – a volcanic archipelago in the Pacific Ocean lying 1000 km off the coast of Ecuador. The islands are unparalleled in beauty and considered one of the best places in the world for wildlife-viewing.

Visiting Isla Baltra first, a small, flat and arid island brimming with prickly pear cacti, you’ll then make your way to the island of Santa Cruz, home to the Charles Darwin Research Station, giant tortoises, sea turtles, and marine iguanas. Its natural harbor, Academy Bay, offers ample opportunity for swimming and snorkeling within crystal-clear waters.

And after combing the Santa Cruz highlands for enormous tortoises and snorkeling within azure waters, fall in love with the island of San Cristóbal (geologically speaking, one of the oldest of the Galápagos archipelago) and Isla Lobos, where sea lions, blue-footed boobies and Frigatebirds roam, before making your way back to mainland Ecuador for a night.
