6 Classical Nights in Europe

6 Classical Nights in Europe

Where the Waters of the Danube Meet the Classical Capitals of Europe. Discover the very essence of three stunningly beautiful capitals for 6 Nights!

From the Hungarian capital of Budapest to the Slovakian capital of Bratislava and the Austrian capital of Vienna, this is a wonderful opportunity to not only thunder across Europe’s plains but to sail the waters that are beautifully immortalized by the composer Strauss, in his waltz ‘The Blue Danube”.

Hungary represents a majestic treasure trove of cultural vibrancy, UNESCO world heritage sites, and the visual intensity of the impressive Danube banks. And nowhere does this better than Budapest, a city of creatives, of ruin pubs where young minds and ideas meet from every corner of the world and exquisite aromas emanating from the restaurants of Váci Utca. A night might start in one of these bistros and end with a raucous party in a centennial thermal water spa. Somewhere in the heart of the city, a bottle of passion is waiting for you!

Chug along the precipitous countryside on board Train to Bratislava. The Slovakian capital lays claim to some of the most important history in Europe. From Celtic center to its vital part of the Limes Romanus, the Slavi and Germanic clash to the coronation capital of Hungarian kings. A city fenced in for four decades by the barbed wire of the iron curtain, yet it still has the power to inspire and delight. Today Bratislava is a free and trendy capital; one of the most vibrant in Europe.

From Bratislava to Vienna take to the water on a hydrofoil to appreciate the powerful beauty of the Danube. As  described by Lonely Planet, “Vienna is packed with imperial history; at the same time it has exciting contemporary museums and lively nightlife scenes.” The soul-stirring tones of the Vienna Boys’ Choir drifting across a courtyard and the opulent palaces are the perfect antidote for contemporary urban living and the order of the day for culture vultures.

You’ll step foot in not one, not three but FOUR of Scandinavia's most striking cities: Gothenburg, Malmö, and Copenhagen. With culture and history abundant, you’ll have a hard time saying no to this package deal.

Known as the birthplace of ABBA and land of billowing snow, Sweden offers heaps of culture, intricate architecture and food that’ll make you swoon. As you touch down in Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city and home to the Gothenburg Film Festival, feast your eyes on the plethora of monuments, markets, and cathedrals which adorn its streets. Satisfy your inner history buff by wandering Crown Keep, a hilltop fortification built in the 17th century and the old army barracks beside it. Then, you might decide to saunter on down to the city district of Haga, situated conveniently on Crown Keep’s doorstep and dotted with picturesque wooden houses from the 19th century.

As an architectural powerhouse, Sweden boasts a lot of buildings worth stopping to admire and Gothenburg is no exception. The Gothenburg Cathedral is impressive and splendid and Crown House, the former home of the Swedish Parliament, is certainly not to be sneezed at. Then there’s Liseberg, Scandinavia’s biggest amusement park with roller-coasters and rides that'll turn even the grumpiest of adults into a playful child again.

After your time in Gothenburg, you’ll make your way to Malmö, the capital of Scania and the third largest city in Sweden. Before stopping for a bite to eat in the Little Square with its outdoor tables and scenic dining experience, you might fancy heading to the ornate Malmö City Hall or to the outdoor market in Möllan for a splash of color. Home to middle eastern and Asian shops and restaurants, the area is a haven for multiculturalism and the affordable bars and restaurants will have you wining and dining till dawn.

Next, you’ll be whisked off to Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark which started out as a humble Viking fishing village in the 10th century. The city has since come a long way; as an artistic hub where splendid architecture and sumptuous cuisine prevail, trips to places such as the Rundetaarn (one of the city’s most iconic buildings)and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art will make for a memorable holiday. When you’ve filled your bellies to the brim with succulent Danish treats, take a trip to the fantastic Ordrupgaard gallery and gaze at the creations of Monet and Renoir or browse the eclectic stores of the Latin Quarter.

Andalusia Half Board

Andalusia Half Board

The Costa del Sol or “Sun Coast” is an idyllic strip of Spanish coastline that offers everything you could possibly want from a relaxing holiday. A night spent here in heaven on earth will leave you feeling well-rested and glowing, ready to conquer the sights and delights of Seville, Cordoba along with Granada.

But before you reach these cultural heavyweights, we’ll whisk you off on a scenic escape to some of Spain’s more underrated (but nevertheless spectacular) destinations: Pizarra and Estepa. With plenty of food for thought, we'll visit a local citrus farm and sample zesty produce in Pizarra and then try out some of Estepa’s world-renowned “mantecados” (Christmas pastries) afterward.

You’re in for a treat when we reach Seville, the capital of Andalusia and home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites (the Alcazar palace complex, the Cathedral and the General Archive of the Indies). Round-bend, and there’s historical clout as far as the eye can see, especially from the top of La Giralda, Seville’s bell-tower and worldwide symbol. Wander the echoing halls of Seville's cathedral (the final resting place of Christopher Columbus) before exploring the Real Alcazar, a palace constructed in Moorish style and home to the exact room where Columbus planned his journey to America.

Not too far from Seville is Cordova, our next stop. Marked by the footprints of the plethora of visitors that have settled within its walls, Cordoba is a World Heritage Site and rightly so. Walk through the historic quarter and gaze up at the intricate Mezquita (mosque) while entering the seemingly endless number of museums and fanciful flamenco festivals.

And last but not least, we’ll discover Granadain all its glory. This mid-sized provincial capital is one of Andalusia’s prized gems. From the tipple or two enjoyed by students at university bars to the beautiful monuments and proximity to snow-capped peaks in the nearby Sierra Nevada, Granada offers something for everyone. The Alhambra is arguably the city’s most striking monument, displaying one of the finest architectural legacies of Moorish rule in Spain.

When you’re not mingling with the locals in Ribeira cafés, be sure to take a look at Sao Francisco Church, known for its ornate gilded carvings, and the splendid 19th-century Palacio de Bolsa sitting nearby. Two nights later, you’ll find yourself in Albufeira for the second leg of your getaway.

This pearly-white coastal gem nestled in Portugal’s Algarve region. Vibrant, lively and beachy, Albufeira is a beach-hoppers paradise – a perfect place to relax by the shore for hours on end; or fill your evenings with singing and dancing.

Its waterfront promenade ringed by brightly colored apartments while the nearby marina is a base for diving, dolphin-watching, and other boat tours – you might decide to go on one of these, venturing out into the clipped blue horizon to marvel at all sorts of technicolored marine life.

Following on from the beach paradise of Albufeira, you’ll stop off in Lisbon for two nights, home to the imposing Sao Jorge Castle which offers superlative views of the city’s reddish brown rooftops.

The Portuguese capital offers the best of both worlds; heaps of culture and miles of beaches from Cascais to Estoril. This means you can go from basking in the sun’s rays to sightseeing around the city within a matter of hours.

When you’re not soaking up the sun, feast your eyes upon the medieval Tower of Belem, Jeronimo’s Monastery and the Praca do Comercio public square fringed by bars and boutiques – perfect for afternoon espressos and people-watching.
